Cabin, Cain, and Celtic

Today’s article is brought to you by the letter C. It is the symbol for the element carbon. It is also the symbol for the Roman numeral 100. It can stand for Celsius or be a key or a scale. It’s a vitamin, a mediocre grade in school. It also directly describes the kind of music you can catch this weekend – Brett Cain, Cabin Fever, and the Celtic Celebration!

It isn’t hard to find a place to play as almost all bars that boast bands also offer the open mic opportunity. There is literally live music every day for someone to see. Monday – Thursday you can sign up on a sheet to sing somewhere or hear acts that will be booking future shows. As far as gigs go, Thursday SIN will be one of the bands at the Altar Bar, playing their powerful music in Pittsburgh, kicking off the coming weekend.

First Friday once again features Cabin Fever at the Smart Centre at 6 and also Brett Cain can be seen making music at the Market Vines Wine Bar and Grille from 8-11. The Celtic kick-off begins on Friday, for free, as Gallowglass will be playing at Independence Hall from 7-9. At Down on Main Street, The Get Down will be giving us the music of The Grateful Dead.  You can see The Muddle two times this weekend – Friday at The Mountainner Bar and Grill and Saturday at Undo’s in Elm Grove.

Saturday the Celtic Celebration starts early at the Artisan Center, as all day entertainment ensues from 10:45 A.M. – 11:00 P.M. Admission for the festival is $5, with children 12 and under getting in for free.  Brigid’s Cross will be playing two sets, from 3 – 4:15, and closing the Celtic Fair from 9:30 – 11.  One of my favorite local bands, Black Slaney, will also be showcased on stage, from 6:30 – 7:15.

Saturday after the celebration you can also see New American Groove at Cheers in Moundsville, Stack of Monkeys at Down on Main Street, and Soul Groove Orchestra at The Indian Club.  There are plenty of shows to partake in, all kinds of genres to enjoy.  Whether you’re looking for the kid-friendly kind of music offered at First Friday and the Celtic Fair, or want to see a band in a bar with your buddies or boyfriend/girlfriend, we’ve got it all going on.  Get your daily dose of musical mineral, your nightly nutrient, your supplement of c and support live and local artists, shops, and shows!
